We use real ping, not an estimate based on distance
Many Rust server browsers, including Steam’s own, show a ping figure that’s actually estimated from geographic distance and not measured. Rustcator.com measures the real ping: a distributed network of probes around the globe send the same connection query Rust’s own client uses to each server and times the round trip. Pick the probe closest to you and the ping shown is the ping you would actually get.
Populated servers are measured as often as every 90 seconds, so that the data is up to date and not stale.
Wipe data source
We aggregate wipe data from multiple sources provided by servers as they do not submit wipe schedule data in any standard way.
Every extracted wipe time carries a “confidence” level:
- High confidence: the server ha stated an explicit date or time
- Predicted: no explicit next occurrence was found, only a recurring cadence label like “Weekly”; the next wipe is estimated from that cadence and the server’s own last known wipe.
What we do not do
Rustcator.com does not display ads looking like ordinary server listings. We do not accept payments to inflate server position in search results. We do not independently verify server’s reported population as no third party can. Every data point should be treated as approximation. What we can verify, and do, is ping, uptime, and whether a server’s own published text matches what actually happens.
